PROLONGED DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS
NOTICE TO RATE PAYERS
The current prolonged dry conditions have depleted the available water resources to the Drainage District and it is becoming increasingly difficult to supply water and manage water levels in the rhyne network.

The Drainage Board is working to achieve the best conditions it can for rate payer’s needs in the viewed rhyne network. However
IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT WATER LEVELS WILL CONTINUE TO DECLINE UNTIL SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL RETURNS TO THE CATCHMENTS.

We strongly advise rate payers to adequately review the management of their livestock on land within the Drainage District. In particular we advise you to consider whether there is sufficient water in the watercourses adjacent to your land, for animal security (wet fencing) and animal welfare (drinking water) and to make alternative arrangements where necessary.

We are working with the Environment Agency to alleviate the problem so far as it is possible however the foreseeable forecast remains predominantly dry.

If you do not actively manage your land yourself please pass this information to anyone who you have given permission to use the land. Eg Grazier or tenant.

For further information please refer to the Drainage Boards Website
www.somersetdrainageboards.gov.uk where we will post updates as the situation changes.
